Looking down High Street - it basically looked like a ghost town.

Brick Street resturant right across from my house. Where are all the people?

You can kind of see to the far left two flames from a candle. Bagel & Deli is still open by candlelight!!
So, the hurricane left Oxford completely without power for 2 days. Miami University and places of business are now beginning to regain electricity, but there are still about 5-6 thousand students off-campus that do not have power. I am just lucky to live uptown where all the businesses are and so I was one of the first to get power back - YAY for showering and doing my hair now!!
Miami University has a long-streak of never cancelling class for anything - literally!! Last year when we got 13 inches of snow within 24 hours, level 2 emergencies across the county, and every university in the state canceled class EXCEPT Miami University. So, when the university basically was forced to cancel class on Monday due to no power, it was a big deal. Then when Monday rolled around and the power had still not regained, the students thought for sure we don't have school. Guess again... classes are in session and the electricity will be provided through massive generators. This upset many students because as many said... "are we suppose to study or survive?" By nine o'clock p.m the students were just too upset with the university's decision to hold class tomorrow and so over 3 thousand students had a sit-in outside the president of the university's house!!

More people were present than for our football games!! All for trying to get classes canceled - why are we at this university again? It was pretty funny and in the end the students lost, we did have classes today.

How funny! I would be bummed to have class too, but not so much that I'd stand outside the President's house and create a big scene. My parents lost a big tree down by the lake WHILE I was talking on the phone with them Sunday. It was pretty crazy.
