These are all the feelings I have had over the past week and half (sorry it took me so long to make post). Geoff PROPOSED!!!
Ok, let's start from the beginning...
Geoff and I met (at a singles dance = lame!) - he asked me out - I turned him down - he was persistant - after a few flirty text conversations, phones calls, and Geoff wooing me I agreed to a date. We went on our first date and just "clicked." I have never felt so comfortable and had such a wonderful time with another person. Four days later we told each other we KNEW we were going to get married... crazy!?! Were we nuts?? Probably, but it really just felt right, perfect from the moment we met.
Geoff and I have obviously been talking about marriage for a little while now. We have been talking about dates and when to get and engaged and had kind of (or so I thought) come to a conclusion we would get engaged in the Spring. Therefore this whole ring on the finger thing is a little early for me hence the shock affect!! He also had been leading me on that it wouldn't be for a couple of months due to golf season, $$, planning, etc. - he even had his friends direct me to the distance future for our engagement!!
The Proposal
I went down to Dayton to visit him for the day. It was a normal afternoon - we went golfing and had a great time. After our golf adventures, we went back to his house and he made us stir-fry dinner :D We then decided to just hang-out and watch TV... it was 8ish so American Idol was on and I was super excited!! As we were watching TV, he leaned to me and asked if I wanted to dance (super cheesy, but we just randomly do this sometimes). Me, super excited to be watching American Idol gave him a "can this wait til my show is over look" but then I saw his face and agreed to dance. We got up, he turned on a playlist he had for us, and we danced to on of our favorite songs. The next song came on, "our song" --> he was singing it to me when he first told me that he loved me. We danced for a verse or two and then he told me he "had something in his sock." He bent down and the next thing I knew he was on one knee and holding me hand. He began talking as if he was going to propose... I got really confused and told him to stop joking and get up! He told me he was being serious... after a few tears and special, loving words, he pulled out a ring and asked me to marry him. I SAID YES!!!
***disclaimer: Let me explain why I really thought he was kidding when he first began to propose:
#1 - Geoff is a big goof ball. We are always kidding, joking, and laughing. See below...
(My jokester, playful fiance!!) He had kind of imitated what he may do before so I thought that was what he was doing again. (I was sooo wrong!)
And #2 - He knew he needed my parents blessing and approval before asking my hand in marriage. I knew for sure, for sure, for sure that he had not talked to my parents yet. Or so I thought...
Like I said above, Geoff had been giving me clues/signals that the engagement wouldn't be for a couple of months... like this one: He kept acting as if he was super nervous to ask my parents for my hand in marriage (I know... it is a scary thing, he was just acting super, SUPER nervous and Geoff is not a nervous, shy guy). He had told me that he wasn't planning on talking to them for a few weeks, after he had more visits with them. Made sense and I understood... haha, fell right into his trap :-)
He actually went to my parents house a couple of weeks before he proposed to talk to my parents and ask for their blessing. EVEN MY PARENTS were in on the secret!!!!
So, the proposal wasn't completely unexpected, because we have been talking about marriage for awhile, but the timing was definitely a surprise!! But, that is exactly what I wanted and he knew that. I wanted to be shocked when it happened and swept off of my feet. He did such a wonderful job with the surprise, the proposal and the ring!!! I love him.
He is an amazing man. Over the past couple of months I have never been so happy. We have so much fun together - laughing and giggling!! I have learned so much from him about life and the deeper purpose of why we are here. I know that Geoff and I were placed in each others lives at this time to help each other grow in the gospel, serve others always, and begin a family. He is a wonderful man and I thank Heavenly Father for him everyday. I can't wait to begin my life forever with him.
The plans...
We have been engaged now for a week and a half but plans are coming along. We do not have an "official" date set but hopefully will by this weekend. The day will be one of the first three weekends in August this year and we will be married and sealed in the Columbus Temple. Will keep everyone posted.
WE'RE ENGAGED!!!
